The Skilled Migration Program, also known as the General Skilled Migration Program, is for people who have skills in particular occupations required in Australia but are not sponsored by an employer. Eligibility is based on points awarded for such things as english, skills and experience.

State Sponsored Skilled Visa (Subclass 190)

The sponsored skilled visa allows skilled workers who do not meet the points test for the skilled – independent visa to apply for permanent residency through state and territory nomination.

Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (Subclass 491)

This is a provisional visa. It is for skilled workers who want to live and work in regional Australia. It allows you to stay in Regional Australia for 5 years.

Regional Sponsored Skilled Visa (Subclass 489)

This is a four year regional provisional visa which gives the applicant temporary immigration and residency.

Regional Sponsored Skilled Visa (perm) (Subclass 887)

You must have met the subclass 887 work and residence requirements and held one or more eligible visas for a total of 2 years before a subclass 887 visa application is made.

Independent Skilled Visa (Subclass 189)

This permanent visa and is assessed against your skills. This stream is for points-tested skilled applicants who are not sponsored by an employer or family member or nominated by a state or territory government.

Independent Skilled (NZ stream) (Subclass 189)

This visa is for New Zealand citizen (subclass 444) visa holders who have shown a commitment and contribution to Australia to apply for permanent residence.

Graduate Work Visa (Subclass 485)

This graduate visa (subclass 485) is for international students who have recently graduated from an Australian educational institution.
