Work Experience 482 Visa
The Department of Home Affairs has announced the in November 2024 the minimum work experience requirement to apply for an Employer Sponsored Temporary 482 (or its replacement, the Skills in Demand Visa) will reduce from two years to one year.
This opens the door for more applicants to move into a temporary/permanent residency pathway through employer sponsorship.
It is worth noting however this this change is likely to coincide with the introduction of the Visa in Demand Visa which is a tiered system with lower paid positions and all trades likely to be handicapped by other barriers.
AAT to be Abolished
The Administrative Appeals Tribunal will cease on 14 October 2024. The AAT will be replaced by the Australian Review Tribunal at this time and all current matters before the AAT with transfer to the ART.
The ART will have new powers to refuse applicantions where on the face of the application there are no merits with the onus shifting to the applicant to show cause in order to have the matter re-instated.
The impact on current applications at this time is unknown, and given the enormous backlog of matters, the amount of time required to work through these matter is unknown.
