A reminder the 186 transition program changes commence on 25 October 2023.
These changes apply to all undecided applications as of 25 October 2023 and any new application filed on or after that date. So applications filed now will likely be decided in line with the new rules.
Summary of Changes/Requirements
- All 482 visa holders are able to transition to 186 visas regardless of occupation. This applies to short term, medium term and labour agreement 482 visa holders.
- You must work on your 482 visa for 2 of the last 3 years for your sponsoring employer.
- All new 186 nominations must meet the new TSMIT of $70,000. This can include base pay and guaranteed overtime and penalties.
- You must be under the age of 45 at the time of applying.
- You must have a valid English language certificate or holder a passport from the UK, USA, NZ, Canada or Ireland. No general English language waiver based on education is available.
